About the Position: International Tour Guide

Being an international tour guide sounds like a dream job (and it is)! But let’s be fair—it’s not for everyone. This role involves traveling, living in different locations for a few months at a time, and occasionally spending short periods abroad.

This role requires enthusiasm for exploring and a willingness to learn about the places you visit. You’ll need to become an expert on every location you guide, so you can confidently and enthusiastically share fascinating stories with your guests.

On top of that, you’ll need to adapt to new surroundings, climate, food, culture, and colleagues. If all of this sounds more like a fun challenge rather than a daunting task, keep reading—you might just be on the right track.

The skills needed to be a successful tour guide are multifaceted. Below, we’ve highlighted a few key traits. If you find yourself nodding along and thinking, “Yes, that’s me!” to most of these, we’d love to hear from you:

What Makes a Great Tour Guide

  • Fluent English Speaker: You can confidently and clearly communicate in English.

  • Welcoming Presence: You know how to make everyone feel welcome and seen, creating an enjoyable environment for everyone.

  • Positive Attitude: Can you bring good vibes to every situation? Even on those days when the weather doesn’t cooperate, like a very (very) rainy day?

  • Trusted Partner: Steady, reliable, and always on time, you’re the person both guests and colleagues can count on.

  • Confident Communicator: You’re comfortable talking to groups or one-on-one. Whether it’s storytelling or answering questions, you know how to keep people interested and engaged.

  • Curious Explorer: New places, new stories? No problem! You’re excited to quickly absorb information and become an expert in every location you guide.

  • Bird’s Eye View: Managing a group of people requires keeping an overview—whether it’s the day’s plan, the group’s needs, or ensuring everything stays on track.

  • Entertainer at Heart: Your storytelling brings locations to life. You turn complex topics into fun, understandable, and unforgettable moments for your guests.
